More coasts, more sea
Many cyclists appreciate riding close to the beach, coast and sea - no wonder, as you can jump into the cool water at any time during the hot season or simply watch the waves rolling in and listen to the surf. The air is always good! Whether you appreciate the stiff breeze on the North Sea and Baltic Sea or the balmy winds on the Adriatic, stronger gusts and winds on the thundering Atlantic or perhaps the calm on the Mediterranean. You'll find what you're looking for at Velociped.
Adria - Dolce Vita
On the Alpe-Adria cycle path, for example, you cycle straight to Grado and the sea. Dolce vita on the Italian Mediterranean with a sandy beach, cappuccino, pizza, spaghetti and vino rosso is then the order of the day.
For those who prefer a more southerly route: in Apulia you can discover two seas by bike: the Ionian and the Adriatic. There are always fantastic views along the coastline. Which sea do you like best?
Of course, you can also combine Italy with other countries on the water and cycle from Trieste or Venice to Slovenia or Istria or Croatia. The coastline there tends to be rocky and the colours of the water will delight you: turquoise blue, dark blue or sparkling sky blue. Small secluded bathing bays with sandy beaches will tempt you into the refreshing water again and again.
North Sea with a breezy breeze
In the Netherlands, for example, Zeeland offers a circular tour during which you cycle almost constantly along or on bridges, even over the North Sea and its far-reaching arms. A tour around the Dutch IJsselmeer, which is actually a freshwater lake and lies behind a dyke on the coast, also takes you close to the water and the sea is not far away.
In East Frisia, you can even hop from one island to the next: from Borkum with its healthy offshore climate, via Norderney - very glamorous - to Langeoog with its extensive, light-coloured sandy beaches. These are the three islands you will visit on the ‘East Frisia: Island hopping’ tour.
Baltic Sea and beach chair
In Germany, from Flensburg or Kiel to Lübeck or Lübeck to Stralsund etc., you can cycle along the Baltic Sea. The route almost always takes you directly along the Bay of Mecklenburg and from seaside resort to fishing village and beach chair. A crab sandwich is a must. Take it easy and enjoy the fresh air.
Island feeling and deep blue sea
Bike and boat are also a good combination, we think. And so you can choose this option on the Greek Peloponnese and the islands of the Saronic Gulf, among others. Let the boat take you across the sea. You will also spend the night on the luxuriously equipped three-master. You will then travel across the islands or on the mainland by bike with solid ground under your tyres, always close to the water. Guaranteed views of the deep blue Aegean!
Pure Atlantic
You will encounter the roaring Atlantic with its high waves on the Portugal tours, on the cycle tour from Porto to Lisbon or the coastal tour from Porto to Coimbra. Dunes, cute, small or sophisticated seaside resorts with villas, a lagoon, high cliffs and mighty steep coasts and, of course, plenty of surfing hotspots with high waves will impress you. A world record was even set in Nazaré, where a wave almost 25 metres high was surfed.
One island
If you only want to circumnavigate one larger island, the Danish island of Bornholm, the Spanish Balearic island of Majorca or the Portuguese island of Madeira are just a few examples.
On Germany's largest island, Rügen, you can take a round trip. There are 60 kilometres of sandy beaches there. Take your pick! Or visit the numerous headlands and venture far out to explore the peninsulas and bays of the Baltic Sea.
Whatever sea and coastal cycle tours you have in mind, in the south or the north, island or mainland, stiff breeze or lukewarm wind, you are sure to find what you are looking for at Velociped.
