Sustainability? Velociped!
Of course, cycling per se can be classified as more sustainable than driving a car, for example, but there is also room for improvement “behind the scenes” in terms of environmental friendliness throughout Velociped's operations. Because the climate is important to us, whether it concerns the way our customers travel, the office, the food, the hotels and restaurants or the CO2 footprint in general.
Arrival
A sustainable cycle tour starts with the journey. Travel to the starting point of your cycle tour by an environmentally friendly option such as train or bus. Many destinations are easily accessible by taking bikes on public transport such as trains or buses. Or you can travel even more relaxed by simply booking a rental bike and travel through the country completely stress-free.
Travel documents
On your bike tour, you can then use our digital or analog travel guides in paper form. The printed form for leafing through contains the same information as the app, but our digital travel guides help to avoid a flood of paper and drastically reduce paper consumption.
On our app for smartphones, you will find maps, information and explanations about places of interest, recommended cafés/restaurants along the way and many other tips. Everything is always available with just a few clicks. You can search for special features around your respective location, which is displayed on the app, and use GPS tracks to see whether you are on the route. You can view our GPS tracks with your installed app or on your GPS device. We will be happy to send you the tracks by e-mail.
By the way, all Velociped guests who only choose digital travel documents will receive a sustainability bonus in the form of a discount of €20.00 per room for many trips. If that's not an incentive.
Climate-friendly catalogue and booking
Speaking of paper: we also want to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible in our catalog production. As a ClimatePartner, we therefore use environmentally friendly materials such as FSC ® certified paper, whose raw materials are grown sustainably, ecologically and under humane, fair working conditions, as well as energy-efficient processes. Unfortunately, it is not possible to produce a catalog completely CO2-free, so we offset the few remaining emissions with a financial climate contribution via “climate partner”. In this way, we actively reduce the ecological footprint of our catalog production. For every ton of CO2 that is offset by the contribution, a tree is planted in Germany. The tree planting is in turn combined with a wind energy project in Mauritania. This is a measure that will enable more wind energy to be generated in Mauritania and thus reduce electricity generation from fossil fuels.
You can book with us digitally or online with just a few clicks. After a few days, you will receive your booking confirmation by e-mail. The travel documents will also be sent by e-mail.
Sustainable overnight stay
You have leafed through the catalog or online, chosen a Velociped cycle tour, arrived and are now looking forward to everything you will see, hear, smell and taste with your travel documents as an app or in paper form, including the hotels, of course.
On our cycle tours, you will preferably stay in environmentally conscious accommodation establishments that focus on sustainable concepts. These range from breakfast with organic, regional and seasonal products from the surrounding area and recycling to avoiding single-use plastic, such as the small cosmetics bottles or jams and butter in small mini portion packs.
And another tip: star bike tours are particularly environmentally friendly, as fewer hotel changes are necessary and therefore have less of an impact on the environment due to fewer laundry changes and the like. We are constantly expanding our range in this area.
On the bike / During the tour
Cyclists in particular want to consciously experience nature without leaving any traces behind. This also means taking your garbage with you to the nearest garbage can or hotel and respecting animals, rest and grazing areas.
To and in the Velociped office
Many Velociped employees travel to the office by bike, public transport or on foot. Free parking is available, there is a bus stop right outside the door and the main train station is about a 10-minute walk away. We charge our e-bikes in the workshop.
When we arrive at the office, most of us first have an organic coffee or tea. At lunchtime, we heat up the food we've brought with us or order something from a nearby restaurant. We get water from the tap and otherwise drinks in glass bottles.
Then we go to the computer at the modern and ergonomically equipped desk with energy-saving lighting. We use 100% green electricity for computers, lighting, etc.
In principle, however, we like to rely on daylight and simply switch off our lamps when there is enough natural light - as well as everything else when it is not needed.
Our office is largely paperless for environmental reasons, so if paper waste is produced, it is of course separated, as is plastic waste, which we don't want to produce in the first place, organic waste and residual waste. We also only use environmentally friendly cleaning products.
Travelife
Velociped is an official member of Travelife and thus at the first “Travelife Engaged” level. We are proud of this. Travelife is a world-leading three-stage training and certification program for sustainability management in the travel industry. The program focuses on energy saving measures, waste and emissions management and sustainable environmental measures in travel design. As a committed member of Travelife, we are working step by step to meet the international sustainability standards and would initially like to achieve the first award level “Travelife Partner”.
