  • River fans: along the Weser from Hann. Münden to the North Sea.
  • City lovers: Be enchanted by the small towns along the route.
  • Culture seekers: Cultural delights are also catered for on this trip.

Highlights

Hann. Münden
Hann.Münden is rich in restored half-timbered houses (more than 700 in the historical town center) with nice medieval churches (St. Blasius, St. Aegidia) and buildings of the so-called Weserrenaissance. Worth mentioning in particular are the Welfenschloss and the historic town hall.

Münchhausen museum
His racy ride on a cannon is well-known all over the world, and his astounding hunting stories have inspired large and small audiences for centuries. Welcome to Bodenwerder, home of the incomparable fabier Hieronymus Carl Friedrich Freiherr von Münchhausen (1720-1797).   By now in the birthplace of the talented story-teller with a tendency to exaggeration seriöse policy is being made. However on some days you still feel the spirit of the Freiherrn of Münchhausen in the old town alleys and you might meet him as he is strolling through the pedestrian zone...

German fairy-tale and legend museum
The fairy-tale and Weser-legend museum is located in Villa Paul Baehr, a splendid art nouveau villa, at the spa gardens of Bad Oeynhausen. Arised from the private foundation of Dr. Karl Paetow, who died in 1992, the museum offers insights into the wide field of the old folk art and deals with the visualization of fairytale and legend motifs.

Dom St. Petrus
The heart of Minden is the old town, which is divided into the area around the early Gothic cathedral from the 11th-13th century with its Romanesque westwork and the so-called Domfreiheit.

Castle of Hoya
The Hoya Castle is a former castle, already mentioned in 1233. Together with the church it was situated on a Weser island, which was united with the city at the end of the seventeenth century by filling up the Weser arm. The castle was seat of the Niedergrafschaft, a line of the counts of Hoya. After their extinction, Nienburg became the seat of the Counts of Hoya. In 1582 the county fell back to the Dukes of Brunswick. Since then the castle was an offical seat and important in the Thirty Years' War last.  In 1859 it became the seat of the magistrate's office.

Bremen Town Musicians
Bremer Town Musicians is the title of a fairy tale that plays in the Lower Saxon countryside of Bremen.

Overseas ports of Bremerhaven
Bremerhaven with its overseas ports is a hub for the import and export of various goods. In the gigantic ports you can marvel at mega-ships, containers and countless cars. You can also experience locks, bridges and museum ships that keep a part of German shipping history alive.

tour

Get here early to see the 700+ half-timbered houses in the city, as well as the renaissance-era city hall.

The former Benedictine monastery at Bursfelde, and Oberweser with its open-air milling museum await you.

Today your ride takes you along the border of Solling. You'll pass the Fürstenberg castle, where porcelain is made, before you reach the monastery at Corvey. After that, continue on to the next highlight of the tour: the palace at Bevern, one of the most impressive buildings of the renaissance at the Weser.

After leaving Bodenwerder, you'll be greeted by the picturesque Hämelschenburg, before being captivated by the Pied Piper of Hameln's song in Hameln.

You'll see Bad Oeynhausen, famous for its "Jordansprudel," the largest carbonated hot spring in the world. But things will get a bit tight (literally!) in the valley at Porta Westfalica, the gateway to Westphalia, before you reach Minden.

Here the landscape changes as you enter the Northern German lowlands. Try following the bear tracks through Nienburg's old city, for a unique way to see the historical sights.

Your ride takes you through little villages filled with red brick houses before you arrive in Verden, famous for its horses. There are many photo opportunities among the broad meadows, windmills, and occasional farmhouses.

Welcome to Bremen! Perhaps you heard the famous town musicians on your ride in, or maybe it was your imagination. Either way, don't forget to check out the statue of them in front of the city hall.

Under the shelter of the dyke you cycle towards north. Be impressed by lush green meadows, black and white specked cows and sheep at the dyke. A fresh wind, the smell of salt in the air, much water and seagulls indicate that you are at the coast. Today you may go on a trip through the beautiful region Butjadinger Land with an excursion by ship to Wilhelmhaven. In Bremerhaven the "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" is worth visiting.

Today your beautiful Weser trip ends in Bremerhaven after breakfast at the hotel. You can simply leave your rental bikes at the hotel and set off on your journey home without a care in the world. If you would like to return to your starting hotel in Hann. Münden, we recommend our practical return transfer service including bike transport.

Condition of cycle paths
The Weser bike trail is one of the best cycle routes in Europe. In surveys conducted by the Allgemeiner Deutscher fahrrad-Club (ADfC - General German Cycling Club), the Weser cycle path has become the most popular cycling route in Germany! Most of the time the bike trail runs parallel to the Weser waterway: especially between Hann.Münden and Rinteln it makes the special charm of this bicycle route. Large sections of the Weser bike track are well developed, paved bike trails, farm roads, or at least roads with separate routing paths. Occasionally short sections lead over country roads with less traffic. There are hardly any sections where you have to drive on unsurfaced roads. Often there are bike trails along both the banks of the Weser River. Especially between Hann.Münden and Werder you can pick the site and take the ferry to switch banks. However, the official Weserradweg bike route leads only on one side of the river.

Transfer back to the starting point of the journey
Daily at 1.30pm there is the possibility to transfer back to Hann.Münden with a small bus (with bike trailer). The driver comes to pick you up at your hotel and has much room for you, your luggage and where required your own bicycle. The bus takes you back to your first hotel (arrival approx. 6pm), thus ensuring a perfect return service without transfer and the hassle of hauling luggage. If you bring your own bicycles, an additional will be charged.

Extra costs which are not included in the price
