tour
Welcome to Weimar - the city of poets and thinkers, Bauhaus architecture and the Weimar Republic. Enjoy the city of great minds. Here beats the heart of German culture. The greatest poet princes and composers, philosophers, architects and aesthetes were drawn here. Follow the traces of Goethe, Schiller and Herder, immerse yourself in the classical Weimar.
In the morning you take over your rented bikes and start the day idyllically. You cycle past Goethe's garden house through the park on the Ilm. At Mellingen you leave the Ilmtal cycle path and then cycle on the very well signposted cycle path Thüringer Städtekette to the optics and university town of Jena. Look forward to Jena, the beautiful market ensemble, the Zeiss Planetarium worth seeing and Schiller's birthplace. Enjoy the view over the city from the "JenTower" or the view into the stars in the oldest operating planetarium in the world.
The day of the castles! The three castles of Dornburg greet you from afar and you should definitely plan to visit them. A fantastic view, the Goethe memorial and the rose garden are unique. Where the Ilm flows into the Saale, you will discover the proud castles of Saaleck and Rudelsburg. After a worthwhile break, you will roll past Schulpforta and along the first vineyards of the Saale-Unstrut region to Naumburg.
The sparkling wine town of Freyburg, the pearl in the Unstrut valley, is the destination of your excursion today. In the morning you will take the regional train to Wangen an der Unstrut. From here you start your bike tour to Nebra, the place where the unique "Nebra Sky Disk" was found. Visit the multimedia visitor center, a unique presentation on the turbulent discovery history of the find awaits you. Then follow the Unstrut Cycle Path to Freyburg, where you can take part in a guided tour of the historic rooms of the Rotkäppchen sparkling wine cellars. You will cycle back through the charming landscape along the Unstrut River to Naumburg, where it flows into the Saale River. Look forward to picturesque wine terraces and the beautiful river valley of the Unstrut.
You cycle upstream in the direction of Bad Kösen with its famous graduation house. From Kleinheringen you continue along the Ilm back to Weimar.
On your last cycling day, you will make an excursion to Erfurt. You cycle along the Thuringian city chain and visit the Krämerbrücke, the Erfurt Cathedral and the fish market in Erfurt. Then you cycle back to Weimar. Alternatively, you can make the return trip by train (not included), then it is about 29 km cycling distance.
After 6 eventful days along the Ilm, Saale and Unstrut rivers, your bike tour ends today in Weimar. We will gladly book you additional nights in this interesting city.
