Gentle wine country, lush orchards, 225 days of sunshine, a climate almost like in the south - that is the German Wine Route. It is a true feast for the senses: blossoming almond trees already at the beginning of March, lemons, figs, kiwis, sweet chestnuts, oleander bushes, palm trees and cypresses, inviting winegrowers' farms and wine taverns. Bad Dürkheim is located in the middle of this beautiful region. From here you will explore the beautiful wine route up and down. Look forward to well-maintained bike paths that lead through slightly hilly terrain in the vineyards. You cycle mainly on cycle paths and farm tracks - mostly asphalted - and on easily passable natural paths. Only shorter sections have to be mastered on rough gravel from time to time. On the way, you will discover medieval Speyer with its magnificent cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the world's largest wine barrel in Bad Dürkheim, fall in love with the picturesque wine town of Freinsheim with its historic center and old town wall, and stroll through the former French fortress town of Landau. Along the way, you will find regional products offered at small stalls in the villages everywhere. Enjoy the Palatinate cuisine, try the typical Palatinate "Saumagen", which became internationally famous thanks to Helmut Kohl, liver dumplings and home-made sausage. In addition, you will be served a glass of the local wine in the cozy wine taverns and in the rustic wine taverns.

This trip is perfect for:

  • One-time packers: With the radial bike tour offer, you only need to pack and unpack your suitcase once, as you spend the entire trip in the same accommodation.
  • Wine lovers who would like to enjoy a glass of fine Palatinate wine.
  • People who like it flat and love wine, as there are many wine villages worth seeing along the route.

Highlights

Bad Dürkheim
Surrounded by vineyards, directly on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, lies the spa, wine and adventure town of Bad Dürkheim.

Neustadt on the Wine Route
Neustadt an der Weinstraße is located in the heart of the Palatinate, on the German Wine Route, and entices visitors to stroll through the historic old town with its lovingly restored half-timbered houses and winding alleys. Its nine wine villages are bursting with life.

Southern Wine Route
Get a foretaste of the views and insights of the Southern Wine Route at Impressions.

Memorial Church
The memorial church was built between 1893 and 1904 in neo-Gothic style to commemorate the protestation carried out at the Diet of Speyer in 1529. With a height of one hundred meters, its tower towers above all the buildings in the city - including the cathedral.

Speyer Cathedral
The imperial cathedral of Speyer was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1981 as the most important and largest Romanesque building in Europe. The foundation stone was laid under Konrad II in 1030 and the cathedral church was consecrated in 1061.

The spacious “Vitalis” wellness and fitness area also contributes to relaxation.

Tour

The Kurpark Hotel is quietly located directly at the Kurpark and yet centrally located in the middle of Bad Dürkheim. The old Kurhaus, the heart of the spacious hotel complex, was built on the foundation walls of the Leininger Castle and borders directly on the Upper Kurgarten. Tour information and bike pickup in the late afternoon.

The first bike tour leads through vineyards and wine villages to the secret German wine capital Neustadt. Stroll through the old town, marvel at the fabulous Elwedritsche fountain and visit the mighty Stiftskirche, Neustadt's landmark, with the largest cast steel bell in the world. Then cycle through the most beautiful wine villages of the Northern Wine Route. Discover Wachenheim with its castle ruins and take a break in Deidesheim, the pearl on the Wine Road. Take your time and visit the Museum of Wine Culture in the historic town hall of the town. It documents in a multi-layered way man's relationship with wine and viticulture.

Today you cycle first to the Rhine and then idyllically along the green arms of the Altrhein to the old imperial city of Speyer. Marvel at the famous Speyer Cathedral, visit the historical museum of the Palatinate and stroll leisurely through the beautiful medieval city center. Cycle back to the hotel through the Böhler Forest on the Kaiser Konrad Cycle Path. If you would like to spend more time in Speyer, you can easily take the train from Speyer back to Bad Dürkheim in the afternoon (on your own).

Romantic wine-growing villages lie on your cycling route to Landau today. Saint Martin looks like something out of a picture book. Take a break in this air, wine and cherry spa town. Marvel at the small, pretty town of Edenkoben, which was once the summer residence of the Bavarian kings! Enjoy the bike trails in this romantic area of the Wine Route, which leads all the way to the former French fortress town of Landau. Look forward to a ramble through Landau, because it is like a trip into the past. Almost all architectural styles of past centuries give the town its historical face today. Return by train on your own.

After a short drive you will reach Freinsheim with its baroque town hall. With its beautiful historic town center and medieval town wall, Freinsheim is certainly a highlight of the entire trip. Via the wine-growing community of Grünstadt you will then cycle to the medieval castle of Neuleiningen. After a worthwhile break you cycle through the vineyards back to Bad Dürkheim.

On the last day of cycling, the local winegrowers as well as the spa town of Bad Dürkheim with its long winegrowing tradition and the largest wine barrel in the world are on your program. Enjoy spectacular views and secluded spots on your bike tour. Back in Bad Dürkheim, a wine tasting has already been organized at the Fitz-Ritter winery to bring your day to an informative close.

We are happy to book additional extension nights for you, so that you can really enjoy this wonderful wine region.
