tour
Plan enough time on your journey to visit the historic old town of Constance. You won't regret it, the city still has a medieval feel to it today. The only church council north of the Alps took place in Constance in 1414. A monument from the time of the Council is now one of the city's landmarks: the Imperia. The statue is a monument to the prosititutes of the time of the Council and stands directly at the entrance to the harbour in Constance. Enjoy the marvellous view of Lake Constance and the Swiss Alps from there.
Today is your first time on a bike! Cycle along the shores of Untersee, past the island of Reichenau, through picturesque Swiss fishing villages to beautiful Stein am Rhein with its picturesque old town and frescoed medieval houses and from there on to Wangen or Hemmenhofen, where you will spend the night.
Start the day with a relaxed breakfast at the hotel and then hop on your bike. You cycle around the picturesque Höri peninsula and reach the spa town of Radolfzell. There you should visit Radolfzell Minster. You should also pay a visit to the Mettnau peninsula, one of the largest and most beautiful nature reserves on Lake Constance. After Radolfzell, the route takes you over the Bodanrück, past orchards and on via Bodman and Ludwigshafen to Überlingen. St Nicholas' Minster, a magnificent lakeside promenade and wonderful views await you there.
So far you have cycled around Untersee and Überlinger See, today you cycle to Obersee (all parts of Lake Constance), past the baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau, from where you have a fantastic view over the lake. The route continues to Unteruhldingen with the pile-dwelling museum, the oldest open-air archaeological museum in Germany. In Meersburg, many romantic corners and small alleyways and the historic castle await you and enjoy the flair of this lively town. Afterwards, continue to Friedrichshafen with its Zeppelin Museum and then on to Lindau. There you can end the evening relaxing at the harbour with a view of Lindau's famous landmarks, the Bavarian Lion and the lighthouse.
After just a few kilometres by bike, you will reach Austria, where the festival city of Bregenz welcomes you with its unique lake stage. Take the opportunity to take the cable car up the Pfänder, the local mountain of the festival town. From there, enjoy the fantastic view of Lake Constance and over 200 Alpine peaks. Shortly afterwards, you will pass the Swiss border and cross the Bregenzer Ach and the Alpine Rhine with its beautiful Rhine delta nature reserve and cycle flat to Horn, where you will spend the night.
For the last time, you cycle along the beautiful Lake Constance, halfway through the canton of Thurgau. A mixture of picturesque little villages and huge orchards awaits you here. Enjoy the marvellous views that keep coming your way. On the Lake Constance cycle path, you will be accompanied by the impressive peaks of the Alps and the foothills of the Alps all the way to Constance. Once you arrive in Constance, use the time for further sightseeing in the largest city on Lake Constance and enjoy a relaxing evening in one of the many restaurants.
