Once you have fallen for the charm of Alsace, it will not let you go. No wonder, it offers its visitors a varied program full of surprises and contrasts. Look forward to Colmar on the Alsace Wine Route, which likes to call itself the capital of Alsatian wines. The city is famous for its well-preserved architectural heritage spanning six centuries. You'll have plenty of time in 7 days to stroll through the old town, which is well worth seeing, and through the famous Little Venice district. Marvel at the colorfully painted and admirably well-preserved half-timbered houses, at the many small squares and nooks and enjoy beautiful evenings in a special atmosphere. During the day you will discover by bike the Alsatian wine route, sleepy little villages as well as famous Alsatian wine towns like Ribeauvillée, Guebwiller and Riquewihr. You will visit the impressive fortified town of Neuf-Brisach and such sacred masterpieces as the St.Stefansmünster in Breisach. Take your time and try Alsatian specialties like Baeckeoffe, Flammkuchen or Guglhupf as well as the wonderful wines of the region.

This trip is perfect for:

  • One-time packers: With the star cycle tour offer, you only need to pack and unpack your suitcase once, as you spend the entire trip in the same accommodation.
  • Romantics: The small towns and villages along the cycle route invite you to daydream.
  • Lovers of half-timbered houses: The half-timbered villages and small towns will cast a spell over you.

Highlights

Colmar - Unterlinden Museum
Known for its world-famous Isenheim Altarpiece, the Unterlinden Museum is one of the most visited museums in France.

Munster
For many, the "Route du fromage" is an ideal excursion. The famous cheese route leads along above the Munster valley. It offers a particularly scenic route. Don't forget to pack some of the local specialties as a snack.

The Munster Cheese
The Munsterkäse is a soft cheese with a rind of red smear. It has been produced since the seventh century, when the monks of the abbey in Munster began its production.

Saint Martin Church
Built from 1235 to 1365, the collegiate church of Saint Martin is a major work of Gothic architecture in Alsace. The roof truss and the crowning of the south tower were destroyed in a fire in 1572. It was replaced three years later by the original onion-shaped skylight, which gives the building its characteristic silhouette.

Little Venice
"Little Venice" is the name of the course of the Lauch in Colmar. This name undoubtedly comes from the original orientation of the houses on both sides of the river, which runs towards the south-east of the city. This district begins behind the department store, passes through the fish bank and reaches the bridges Turenne and Saint-Pierre. It is therefore at the beginning of Krutenau, whose etymology comes from the places of vegetable cultivation around the cities.

Tour

Welcome to Colmar with its architectural heritage spanning six centuries. Stroll leisurely through the picturesque streets and alleys of the old town, the third largest city in Alsace. Enjoy charm, flair and a first wine in a typical winstub.

You start your first bike tour from Colmar in northern direction and reach Ribeauvillé via Houssen. You cycle through the beautiful wine villages of Riquewihr, Turckheim, Eguisheim and back to Colmar.

Today you have plenty of time to discover Colmar. Be enchanted by the old town, the half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and canals. Visit what is probably Colmar's most famous neighbourhood: La Petite Venise (Little Venice), where you can spend a lot of time strolling through the alleyways. Or you can visit the Unterlinden Museum, the Maison Pfister, the Koïfhus and St Martin's Cathedral. You have the whole day to discover Colmar. End the day with a delicious tarte flambée, baeckeoffe, Alsatian cheese or pretzels and toast to your cycle tour with a glass of Alsatian white wine or a tasty grape juice.

Today's round trip takes you through the villages of Turckheim and Zimmerbach into the Munster Valley. The picturesque landscape of the Vosges massif is characterized by gently rounded hills, high alpine pastures, steep slopes and glacial lakes. The area is famous for its Munster cheese. Take time to visit the "Maison du Fromage" and taste the famous cheese. Pass through small villages on a leisurely bike path back to Colmar.

After the stages through the Alsace wine region, today you will experience the Rhine valley quite comfortably. In Neu - Brisach you will pass the imposing octagonal baroque fortress, which was built around 1700 by Vauban, the master fortress builder of Louis XiV. After crossing the Rhine bridge, the Breisgau region of Germany awaits you. Breisach is known for its cathedral and numerous historic buildings in the old town. As in France, you can visit a Maginot Line bunker from World War II in Marckolsheim. Along the canal you will return to Colmar.

There is much more to discover here in the heart of the Elass. We would be happy to book additional extension nights for you.
