Duinen, dorpen, kaasmarkt

No other country in Europe is as characterised by waterways and cycle paths as the Netherlands. So what could be more fitting than travelling here by bike and boat? The northern route in particular has everything that beach, wind and water lovers dream of. Picturesque dune landscapes, breathtaking sea views and charming canals that lead through inviting little towns and villages. Your comfortable, well-maintained river boat will of course accompany you on each of your cycle tours. So there's nothing to stop you simply staying on board and enjoying a wonderfully relaxing day on the sun deck.

Highlights

Enkhuizen
In the 17th century, Enkhuizen was one of the wealthiest towns in the Netherlands. It gained power and influence as a member of the V.O.C. (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie). Enkhuizen's rich history can still be seen today on a walk through the old town with its numerous villas, canals, churches, city walls and harbours.

Hoorn
The harbour city is one of the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands. The imposing historic facades and architecture in the city centre bear witness to the prosperity of times gone by, when Hoorn maintained trade relations with Asia.

Tour

Embarkation on board takes place from 4 pm. If you arrive early, you will still have time to take a first short tour of Enkhuizen and enjoy the atmosphere of the pretty historic harbour town with its lovely old town.

Take some time in the morning to visit the historic centre of Enkhuizen or the Zuiderzee Museum. There are many stories to discover in the alleyways of this historic town. Well-preserved buildings are a reminder of Enkhuizen's rich history as a harbour town.
Your first cycle tour towards Hoorn begins at midday. Look forward to this beautiful city with many buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Take the boat across the IJsselmeer to Lemmer with its historic old town centre and many beautiful gabled houses. From Lemmer you set off on a round trip via Oosterzee Buren to the Teukemeer and via Munnekeburen, Scherpenzeel and Schoterzijl back to Lemmer. Tip: Visit the world's largest steam pumping station "Woudagemaal", which is still in operation.

Cycle to the Sondeler Leien lake, from there through the Rijsterbos forest area, past the Mokkebank bird reserve to the Roode Klif in Stavoren. From there, the MS Rigoletto will take you to Harlingen. Enjoy a stroll through the small town with its beautiful warehouses and patrician houses, canals and bridges. Refresh yourself in one of the many cafés or buy a souvenir in the shops.

Today you can expect a varied circular tour in the province of Friesland around Harlingen. Enjoy the expansive views and beautiful nature. In the afternoon, at around 4 pm, your ship will depart and take you through the lock of the Afsluitdijk to Oudeschild on the island of Texel.

Today you can enjoy a circular cycle tour along the Wadden Sea and high dunes on Texel, the largest North Sea island in the Netherlands. There are various routes to choose from. Tip: Visit the EcoMare seal breeding centre or the "Texelse Bierbrouwerij" (optional). At around 5 pm, the MS Rigoletto will take you back to the mainland to Den Oever.

Today you can choose between a longer and a shorter bike tour. The starting point is the picturesque village of Den Oever, known for its historic fishing port and active fishing fleet. If you opt for the longer tour, you will first cycle westwards to Julianadorp and then further south along the dunes to Callantsoog, which boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the Netherlands. From there, the route heads east via Kolhorn, once a harbour on the Zuiderzee but now surrounded by green meadows, to Medemblik. Alternatively, you can choose the shorter route through the charming region of Hollands Kroon, which passes through the former island of Wieringen and offers magnificent views before you also reach Medemblik, the oldest city in West Friesland. There, a charming old town with many cosy cafes awaits you. In the evening, the Rigelotto sets sail and takes you back to Enkhuizen.

Today your journey through North Holland and Friesland ends with disembarkation at 9 am.

The planned route is always subject to possible changes due to nautical, meteorological or organisational reasons. If, for example, a route cannot be travelled due to low water, high water, bad weather or construction work, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety. This is not a legally valid reason for cancelling the trip free of charge. The same applies in the event of officially ordered lock or bridge repairs or in the event of engine or propulsion damage to the ship through no fault of the captain.

As your ship usually sails to the next harbour on the same day, your time frame for your own activities and sightseeing is limited. On some bridges, the clearance height is so low that the sun deck is closed for your safety.
